I was fortunate to attend the recent opening of a new exhibition at Galeria do Gilde, Guimaraes and was so impressed by the whole evening that I feel it deserves some recognition and praise.

The exhibition of paintings with evocative 'space' themes is the first one-man-show in Portugal of youthful Ferreira-Rocha, a portuguese artist who work from his Paris atelier. On the openning night a comissioned work, composed by Norma Silva and José Machado to complement the paintings, was presented for the first time.

The futuristic music produced by 'piano with electronic synthtiser' and 'violin' was intriguing; the originality of the paintings, impressive; the two together, electric.

How notable it is to find wide ranging talents combining in exciting creativity in the setting of an old Portuguese country house in the North. Congratulations to the enterprising director of the gallery, Luis Texeira da Mota, and to these other young and talented artists who are indeed reaching out into 'space', into the future of Portugal's art and music world.

What a privilege to have witnessed this unique presentation!
